Our Spaying and Neutering program held from 12 th June to 16 th June, 2022 No doubt the Birth Control program can reduce the stray population and to alleviate suffering of injured animals through this program.
The main outcome of this project was to control birth of unwanted puppies of stray and community dogs in the community. After a hectic preparation we scheduled spay and neutering program from 12 th June to 16 th June, 2022. On the eve of the project we announced our project details through social media. With this advertisement people came to know about program and they helped us so much in catching dogs. As we all know that street dogs can’t be caught easily. Local people were very happy when we arrived at the pickup sites. The program was held at Health Post of ward no 2, Suryabinayak Municipality of Bhaktapur district. The health post was offered by the chairman of Ward office of Suryabinak Municipality realizing the importance of spay and neutering program.
We started our program early in the morning at 5.30 AM. Morning period is the best time to catch street dogs. They are very clever. They try to escape when they see our catching team. Since it was a rainy season we experienced little disturbance to our work. Our vehicle stuck in the mud in Changathali area because the road was very muddy and slippery. We managed to pull it out by a tractor a loading vehicle. To reach our target of 225 street 9 members of surgical team were deployed for the project. 213 street dogs were spayed and neutered during the project. In rainy season it is difficult to catch street dogs. They hide in dry areas. However our catching team was fantastic who manage to catch 213 dogs. Some dogs escaped from the scene.
Every day the program was ended at 8 pm. We also conducted follow up session at the sites. It is necessary to visit these sites to look after if any of the dogs have any surgery or illness problem. But luckily we found no one with any problems.
