No doubt the Birth Control program can reduce the stray population and to alleviate the suffering of injured animals through this program. The main outcome of this project was to control the birth of unwanted puppies of stray and community dogs in the community.

After a hectic preparation, we scheduled a spay and neutering program from 12th June to 16th June 2022. On the eve of the project, we announced our project details through social media. With this advertisement, people came to know about the program and they helped us so much in catching dogs. As we all know that street dogs can’t be caught easily. Local people were very happy when we arrived at the pickup sites. The program was held at the Health Post of ward no 2, Suryabinayak Municipality of Bhaktapur district. The health post was offered by the chairman of the Ward office of Suryabinak Municipality realizing the importance of the spay and neutering program.

We started our program early in the morning at 5.30 AM. The morning period is the best time to catch street dogs. They are very clever. They try to escape when they see our catching team. Since it was a rainy season we experienced little disturbance to our work. Our vehicle stuck in the mud in the Changathali area because the road was very muddy and slippery. We managed to pull it out by a tractor and a loading vehicle. To reach our target of 225 street 9 members of the surgical team were deployed for the project. 213 street dogs were spayed and neutered during the project. In the rainy season, it is difficult to catch street dogs. They hide in dry areas. However, our catching team was fantastic who manage to catch 213 dogs. Some dogs escaped from the scene.

Every day the program ended at 8 pm. We also conducted follow-up sessions at the sites. It is necessary to visit these sites to look after if any of the dogs have any surgery or illness problems. But luckily we found no one with any problems.
